We were tired of the same awkward conversation every Christmas

“What do you want for Christmas?” “Oh, I don't know, don't worry about me.” Sound familiar? We had that conversation with our families every year, and watched the same problems play out each time: duplicate gifts, unwanted presents, links buried in group chats.

We looked at what was out there: bloated registry tools built for weddings, US-focused apps, and services that charge a fee just to make a list. None of them felt right for everyday UK life. So we built I Want I Need: simple, warm, and free.

Gifting is personal, and we didn't want money to get in the way. We keep I Want I Need free by keeping it lean: no bloat and no unnecessary features.

Here's how it pays for itself, plainly: when someone buys something through a link on a shared list, the shop may pay us a small commission, at no extra cost to the buyer and without changing the price. Every shared list says so, and the list's owner is never told which links anyone clicked. If we ever add something else to keep the lights on, like optional tips or a business tier, we'll be upfront about it. The core product will stay free.
